I never expected less

I am using the Michelin Energy where ever possible. And in terms of economy these tyres are unbeaten for me. I have 25k miles on my current set of tyres and been ensured that the tyres are good enough for this winter and right enough I have recently made my way through heavy snow fall without the slightest issue. Despite this tyre is not a winter tyre it has done better than some cheap winter tyres in the past and served me well here in the centre belt of Scotland. Before I had used the tyre over in Germany as a pure summer tyre for years and never had any issues. Sure it is no tyre with sportive ambitions but you can have a lot of fun with these tyres too. And unlike some others they even look afterwards the same as before. No excessively rubbed off edges or the like. There are tyres that give you a more precise feedback but I was often amazed how far you have to push these to get to the limits. That gives me a save feeling in all day situations. Depending on the road surface this tyre tends to be reasonable quiet. On low noise surfaces one can even enjoy classic music.

Dreadful ride

I recently replaced my original Continentals with Michelin Energy+ 185-55 R16 tyres. The 2010 Honda Jazz has always had a firm ride but the Michelin have taken this problem to a new level. The car feels like it has no suspension at all now and is very uncomfortable to drive. I have had the car inspected by my Honda main dealer and they can find nothing wrong with the suspension and I have been scratching my head as to why the suspension has deteriorated in the last 5 months and conclude that it must be the Michelin tyres. Having read a few articles on the Jazz/Fit its fair to say that ride comfort comes very much secondary to handling, but I am sure before the Michelin's it was much more pleasant to drive the car.

Outstanding Tyre

Michelin Energy Saver+ with reinforced sidewalls substantially improved the handling of my Toyota Yaris and even in the short term, appear to be showing fuel savings too. Can't praise them enough and top quality too.

Tread pattern

Depending on the fitment the tread pattern can be Asymmetrical or Directional.

Why do you use both Asymmetrical and Directional tread patterns?

Indeed the new MICHELIN PILOT ALPIN has two different tread patterns. The reason is that we worked simultaneously in two parallel ways: one is made in collaboration with Porsche, the second one in a more common way. The two solutions have succeeded to achieve the desired result. Both of tread patterns respond perfectly to the “ridge-n-flex” philosophy and use the same elements but in a slightly different way.

Traditionally the asymmetric pattern is seen as the pattern for better handling. So what about handling with the PA4 Directional pattern version?

Indeed the asymmetric tread pattern is a solution for better handling, but not the only one. As you know the tyre is a system of many elements. By combining them in different ways, you can get great handling with both asymmetric or directional. The good example is our new PILOT ALPIN directional tyre approved by Porsche for the new 911 and Boxster.

Does it mean that Directional MICHELIN Pilot Alpin is only for Porsche?

No, not only.

Indeed it seems like this, as we have started with Porsche sizes. We are free to design more directional sizes for any other vehicles to meet their requirements. Even today these sizes exist in two versions V/W (Porsche marked and without special marking).
