Resists wear in difficult driving conditions

The “Terrain-Proof” compound enables both on and off-road driving and resists wear in difficult driving conditions, in particular:
• in multi-purpose use, e.g. stone/gravel tracks.
• with heavily laden vehicles, e.g. towing a horsebox.
• in hard road driving (hard braking, acceleration or cornering).

"Supple yet rigid” construction
A supple casing, giving the maximum sized contact patch, combined with a rigid tread pattern ensures an even distribution of pressure across the whole contact patch.
Result: optimum grip, especially on wet roads, and an even wear pattern for greater mileage.

Just after I purchased my vehicle, I experienced a few stability issues and decided to replace the tyres for a matching set of four. Having read the reviews and taken into account the type of driving I would undertake, A roads / motorway, I decided to purchase a set of Michelin Latitude tourer HP's. I have since covered over 10,000 mls without any problems, I would rate tyre wear, braking and handling as being overall very good. Whilst motorway driving incurs minimal cabin noise. The only downside to these tyres is that the tread pattern does seem to constantly collect small stones. As the tyres wear I wonder if this could result in future punctures?

I bought this car with 78,000 miles on the clock and two Continental tyres on the front and two almost new Wranglers on the back. At 86,000 miles I gave up on the road noise from the rear tyres and bought 4 Latitude Tour HP MO. That was in October 2014 and now in December 2015 at 119,000 miles I've just ordered 4 more as they are down to 2mm all round. Yes I check pressures regularly and I rotated front to back at 18,000 miles but no punctures, no loss of pressure and excellent grip, road holding and ride. Driving isn't all motorway either, I live in the Peak District so there's muddy roads, local floods, narrow lanes and poor surfaces as well to contend with. Ideally I would like an all weather tyre (Cross Climate aren't available for my car) and considered other makes but in the end moving away from Michelin tyres isn't viable as I don't think there is a better alternative anywhere. So the new set will be fitted next week and in eighteen months time when the car will have notched up 150,000 miles I'll be fitting 4 more!

Tread pattern

Depending on the fitment the tread pattern can be Asymmetrical or Directional.

Why do you use both Asymmetrical and Directional tread patterns?

Indeed the new MICHELIN PILOT ALPIN has two different tread patterns. The reason is that we worked simultaneously in two parallel ways: one is made in collaboration with Porsche, the second one in a more common way. The two solutions have succeeded to achieve the desired result. Both of tread patterns respond perfectly to the “ridge-n-flex” philosophy and use the same elements but in a slightly different way.

Traditionally the asymmetric pattern is seen as the pattern for better handling. So what about handling with the PA4 Directional pattern version?

Indeed the asymmetric tread pattern is a solution for better handling, but not the only one. As you know the tyre is a system of many elements. By combining them in different ways, you can get great handling with both asymmetric or directional. The good example is our new PILOT ALPIN directional tyre approved by Porsche for the new 911 and Boxster.

Does it mean that Directional MICHELIN Pilot Alpin is only for Porsche?

No, not only.

Indeed it seems like this, as we have started with Porsche sizes. We are free to design more directional sizes for any other vehicles to meet their requirements. Even today these sizes exist in two versions V/W (Porsche marked and without special marking).
