Car - 2007 VW Golf R32 I have always liked Michelin tyres in the past, However after losing a bit of love for the PS3's i switched to Goodyear Efficient Grip for a few sets and they performed well but did not last that long as you would expect on a heavy front end like the R32 has. This time i tried the new PS4's and they are simply stunning so far. The wet grip and sheer "dig in and bite" feel you get when enter into a slippery roundabout that normally would see other tyres sliding or scrabbling for grip resulting in excessive shoulder tear. Tyre noise is good also. I really am impressed but then they are not cheap

Not good as much as expected

I use the PS4 on my Focus 3 as 225 45 18. The friction had to be reduced by engineers in order to decrease fuel consumption and increase tyre lifetime&longevity. But I have to say this attitude caused loss of grip of the tyres and I don't feel comfortable on high speed cornering as my previous tyres were Conti Sportcontact 5. I've to say that compare to Michelin; Conti SC5 was excellent in dry weather with very good and safe in wet conditions. The main thing to switch Michelin was less durable treads of Continental. In 45k km their side treads of Conti were gone. My hope is to get benefit by fuel consumption and longevity. But come on! this is not an ECO LRR tyre!

best yet

I have had the Audi A3 for 3 years and since the original set were replaced it has been run on PS3's and had covered 90k. The ps3's were good. I had new tyres about a month ago and ps4's were fitted, straight away they felt grippy. Since then they have proved themselves in wet weather breaking and grip, in the dry the A3 would understeer but now it just digs in and grips. I have never experienced a tyre like it.

Tread pattern

Depending on the fitment the tread pattern can be Asymmetrical or Directional.

Why do you use both Asymmetrical and Directional tread patterns?

Indeed the new MICHELIN PILOT ALPIN has two different tread patterns. The reason is that we worked simultaneously in two parallel ways: one is made in collaboration with Porsche, the second one in a more common way. The two solutions have succeeded to achieve the desired result. Both of tread patterns respond perfectly to the “ridge-n-flex” philosophy and use the same elements but in a slightly different way.

Traditionally the asymmetric pattern is seen as the pattern for better handling. So what about handling with the PA4 Directional pattern version?

Indeed the asymmetric tread pattern is a solution for better handling, but not the only one. As you know the tyre is a system of many elements. By combining them in different ways, you can get great handling with both asymmetric or directional. The good example is our new PILOT ALPIN directional tyre approved by Porsche for the new 911 and Boxster.

Does it mean that Directional MICHELIN Pilot Alpin is only for Porsche?

No, not only.

Indeed it seems like this, as we have started with Porsche sizes. We are free to design more directional sizes for any other vehicles to meet their requirements. Even today these sizes exist in two versions V/W (Porsche marked and without special marking).
