Community Involvement

The Michelin Group was founded in Clermont Ferrand in France back in the late 1880's.

From the beginning, the Michelin Group has considered respect for people to be a key responsibility. It has tried to respect certain rules of behaviour: fair exchange, constructive dialogue for harmonious development within society.

The following five core values today form the basis of our Corporate Social Responsibility Charter, known as 'Performance and Responsibility Michelin':

  • Respect for people
  • Respect for customers
  • Respect for shareholders
  • Respect for the environment
  • Respect for facts

As part of its value 'respect for people', Michelin plays an active role in the communities local to its activities.

Wherever we are, we have a role to play, a responsibility to accept by establishing 'good neighbour' relationships, by taking part in local life through training and development programmes, or through cultural and social exchanges.

Our Aim

  • To enrich the quality of life in the communities where we live and work.
  • To engage our employees in opportunities to positively contribute to the communities where we live and work
  • To enhance education, the environment and safety within our local communities

Achieved through charitable donations and employee activities.

Our core focus areas

Education:

We are committed to developing creative thinkers for tomorrow's workplace. We foster and support programmes that build reading, literacy and numeracy skills within local schools. We also promote scientific and technical professions and encourage youth development through sport and culture. We believe these programmes nurture creativity and develop important life and work skills.

Mobility Safety & Environment:

We are committed to support programmes that reduce the impact of our activities on the environment. In addition, we look to support programmes that sustain our natural environment and promote green mobility. We work to educate, raise awareness of and sustain better mobility through road safety initiatives.

Community Enhancement:

We are committed to supporting programmes that enrich the quality of life for individuals and our communities as a whole. Providing support in Health & Human services should be considered and we also believe the Arts and our heritage are a powerful way to expose people to different cultures and celebrate the diversity of all people.

Prior to submitting a request for support, the organisation should determine whether it falls within one of the core focus areas and meets our support guidelines.
