| To find out if you need new tyres
First we'll look at the legal limits...
The law states that there should be a 'minimum of 1.6mm of tread across the central 3/4 of the tyre and all the way round'.
So what does that actually mean in practice? Lets have a look at each part of that requirement in turn. | |
|
| |
| A minimum of 1.6mm of tread... |
The depth of the grooves MUST NOT BE LESS than 1.6mm. How do you measure this?
|
| | |
| ...across the central 3/4 of the tyre... | This means that the depth of the tread must be not be less than 1.6mm AT ANY POINT IN THIS AREA |
| ...and all the way round. | |
| Why is this? |
Your tyres are the only point of the car in contact with the ground.
|
| The next stage is to see which tyres suit your car. Visit the Michelin tyre selector
