Reynolds Logistics makes leaner, greener switch to Michelin | 18/06/2009 |
(Stoke-on-Trent - June 18, 2009) - Petro-chemical transport specialist Reynolds Logistics has made a company-wide switch to Michelin tyres after signing a three-year pence per kilometre (PPK) contract.
This will see its fleet of 44 tonne Mercedes-Benz Actros tractor units and 18 to 26 tonne Axor rigids fitted with a range of XZE2+ / XDE2+ tyres, as wear dictates, whilst its Magyar tankers will benefit from XTE2 and XTE3 trailer tyres. Designed for medium haul operations, Michelin's 'E' segment regional tyres return the best performance across a mixture of motorway, A and B road use.
Ian Williams, Fleet Operations Manager at Reynolds Logistics, says: "With a fleet covering more than three million kilometres a year delivering bulk lubricants, safety is of paramount importance.
"Our customers have exceptionally high health and safety standards which are at the core of our organisation, requiring us to have auditable fleet records - including tyre maintenance. The Michelin PPK agreement not only allows us to own the tyres, without the up-front cost of outright purchase, but we also have the benefit of routine fleet inspections carried out by professional tyre technicians."
The PPK contract with Michelin is being serviced by ATS Euromaster and will see fleet checks carried out using ATS Euromaster's electronic data capture (EDC2) system, which allows technicians to record each tyre's condition and tread depth onto a small handheld computer before uploading the report in 'real time' to a central database. These results are then automatically passed to Reynolds Logistics' local ATS Euromaster service centre, which co-ordinates any tyre replacements or service work that is required.
"We are constantly looking to implement new and innovative ideas that will not only lead to a safer operation but also have less impact on the environment," adds Williams. "The Michelin tyres we are fitting offer a lower rolling resistance than our previous policy fitment, which will not only have a direct impact on our fuel consumption, but will also help us to further reduce our carbon footprint."
The agreement with Michelin also enables Reynolds Logistics to benefit from access to ATS Euromaster's fleet of 250 frontline rapid response vehicles, which are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide emergency roadside assistance in the event of a tyre-related breakdown.
The Reynolds Group specialises in the logistics and transport of bulk lubricants, fuels, and chemicals serving customers ranging from oil giants BP Castrol, Shell and major supermarket fuel retailer Tesco, as well as smaller groupage operators across Europe, the UK and Ireland.
