Green X versus High Petrol Prices

The GREEN X mark on the MICHELIN tyre sidewalls guarantees one of the best energy efficiency levels on the market. MICHELIN low rolling resistance tyres have helped save an estimated 9.5 billion litres of fuel as well as a staggering reduction in vehicle CO2 emissions of 23 million tonnes. If all cars in Europe were fitted with MICHELIN Green tyres, we would save around three billion litres of fuel (equivalent to 100,000 fuel tankers) each year. With GREEN X marking, MICHELIN is working towards the future of mobility.

Green X on tyre

If your dream is to fill up less often, then read on.

It's a surprise to many that tyres are responsible for up to 20% of a car's fuel consumption. That's the equivalent of one tank of fuel out of five. Tyres consume energy - to see what we mean, touch them after driving a few miles: they are warm or possibly hot. This is mainly due to rolling resistance, one of the five forces a vehicle must overcome to keep moving. The tyres are also exposed to forces when cornering as well as the flattening effect caused by the rotation of the wheels.

Bib with fuel guage

Less heat equals less fuel.

We think you should use tyres that are safer, last longer, and reduce your fuel consumption, without compromise.  To achieve this, MICHELIN added a form of silica to the rubber. MICHELIN EnergyTM tyres were the first to use silica in 1992. The result was dramatic: fuel consumption dropped significantly. In addition, silica contributes to excellent traction in wet conditions. Because they're lighter, with less material to distort, MICHELIN EnergyTM tyres produce less heat and less heat equals less fuel. Fuel savings depends on fuel price and tyre size, but on average MICHELIN ENERGYTM Saver tyres save up to 80 litres of fuel over their lifetime.

The equivalent of a new tyre every 28,000 miles(2)

Three out of four MICHELIN passenger car tyres sold in Europe today are MICHELIN "green" tyres. These low rolling resistance tyres offer exceptional levels of wear performance and grip. Look out for the GREEN X marking on the sidewall. Symbolising reduced vehicle fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions, the GREEN X mark is proof of fuel efficiency that is one of the best in the market. With MICHELIN fuel efficient tyres you save enough money to buy one new tyre after 28,000 miles(2).
