The MICHELIN Paris-Clermont Ride: When Cycling History Takes to the Road Again

On 5 September 2026, more than 400 kilometres stood between the participants and their final destination. A few hours later, the first riders crossed the finish line at Place des Carmes in Clermont-Ferrand, bringing to a close an extraordinary adventure combining endurance, camaraderie and a passion for cycling.

For its second edition, the MICHELIN Paris-Clermont Ride once again brought together cyclists from diverse backgrounds around a shared challenge: riding from Paris to Clermont-Ferrand in a spirit of solidarity and personal achievement. Inspired by the historic race organised by Michelin in 1892, this modern-day adventure revives one of the most iconic chapters in the Group’s history while celebrating a passion that remains deeply rooted in Michelin’s DNA.

A Human Adventure Above All

From Brétigny-sur-Orge to Clermont-Ferrand, with a stop at the Michelin plant in Bourges for refreshments, participants covered more than 400 kilometres across France. But beyond the sporting achievement, it was the collective spirit that truly defined the 2026 edition.

Throughout the route, volunteers, partner clubs, supporters and participants helped create a unique atmosphere built on mutual support and camaraderie. Far removed from a traditional race, the MICHELIN Paris-Clermont Ride is above all a human adventure, where everyone progresses at their own pace while sharing the same journey.

Once again this year, the different participation formats, including solo, tandem and two-person relay teams, enabled an even wider range of cyclists to take part and experience this collective challenge.

Cycling at the Heart of Michelin's History

While Michelin now supports the mobility needs of millions of people around the world, the Group's story began on two wheels.

In 1891, Michelin revolutionised the cycling world by developing the first removable pneumatic tyre for bicycles. This innovation ushered in a new era for cyclists and helped make cycling more accessible and popular. More than 130 years later, that passion remains as strong as ever.

The MICHELIN Paris-Clermont Ride perfectly illustrates this historic connection between Michelin and cycling. By reviving an iconic route and bringing together a community of enthusiasts, the event highlights how closely cycling is linked to the brand's heritage and its culture of innovation.

Supporting Every Cyclist

The 2026 edition also showcased the diversity of riders on the starting line. Experienced cyclists accustomed to long-distance challenges, regular riders looking for their next goal, and enthusiasts embarking on their first endurance adventure all had their own story to write.

This diversity reflects Michelin's ambition to support every cyclist, whatever their goals, experience level or riding style.

With its comprehensive range of road tyres, Michelin meets the needs of every rider, from those seeking reliability and comfort for everyday rides to those striving for performance and endurance over the longest distances. Innovation, safety, efficiency and riding enjoyment are the foundations of an offering designed for every cyclist and every road.

A new page of history written together

Over the miles, the participants of the 2026 edition demonstrated that the spirit of L’Échappée MICHELIN goes far beyond a simple sporting challenge. They embodied values that are deeply rooted in Michelin’s history: boldness, perseverance, a passion for innovation, and the desire to move forward together.

By connecting Paris to Clermont-Ferrand, they also helped keep alive a cycling tradition that stretches back more than a century, while writing a new chapter in this collective adventure.

One thing is certain: the story between Michelin and cycling continues to be written, kilometre after kilometre, driven by those who choose to take to the road every day.
