Michelin is taking connected mobility a step further with its digital tyre twin. This embedded software combines artificial intelligence with more than a century of tyre expertise to improve safety and performance, regardless of the vehicle or tyre brand.

Michelin’s digital tyre twin creates a real-time dynamic virtual replica of the tyres. It continuously analyzes key data from the vehicle to predict tyre parameters like load, pressure, wear or grip, information that is then fed back in real time to the vehicle systems.

Thanks to this real-time analysis, the vehicle can anticipate tyre behavior and instantly adapt its responses.

This innovation builds on Michelin’s 130 years of expertise in tyre physics, combined with advanced mathematical models, artificial intelligence, and data science. It is the result of years of research, numerous patents, and testing conducted over millions of kilometres.

More Safety, Without Added Constraints for Drivers

Powered by data already available within the vehicle, the Digital Tyre Twin continuously predicts essential parameters such as pressure, wear, load, grip, and driving conditions.

Using these insights, the vehicle can anticipate tyre behavior and instantly adapt its reactions.

The system interacts with onboard technologies to:

  • Anticipate available grip levels 

  • Warn of potential aquaplaning risks

  • Improve the effectiveness of driver assistance systems such as ABS(1)

  • Monitor tyre pressure and detect vehicle overloads 

  • Adjust stability and braking distances 

In certain situations, these adjustments can reduce braking distances by up to 4 metres, particularly during hard braking events.

By integrating real-time tyre condition data into braking algorithms, the system has improved braking efficiency: stopping distances have been reduced by up to 4 metres, while vehicle stability has been enhanced, particularly during emergency or heavy braking situations.
